Heinrich Reinhold Wolf

Born in Mainz, Germany on Sep. 10, 1924
Departed on Oct. 10, 2009 and resided in Hampstead, NC.

Our loving Dad and husband, Heiner, died peacefully at home on Saturday, October 10, 2009 in Hampstead, North Carolina, after a heroic fight with Parkinson's disease. He was 85.

Heinrich was born in Mainz, Germany, and served in WWII under General Rommel in Africa. At nineteen, he was captured in Tunisia and brought to America as a prisoner of war. Four years later, after his return to Germany he studied engineering and became a mechanical engineer. A decade later, he emigrated to the United States where he was proud to contribute to large commercial building projects in NYC that included The World Trade Center, Madison Square Garden, and Mount Sinai Hospital. He designed HVAC systems for hospitals in Germany, Egypt and the United States. In 1994, Heinrich retired and moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida where he could enjoy the warm sun and beautiful Gulf waters.

Heinrich loved his family and was happiest sailing the Moguntia in Long Island Sound and New England. He loved his Lord and was an active member of his church as well as a dedicated husband, dad, grandfather, brother and friend.

Heinrich is survived by his sister, Gisela Michel and family, his wife, Ute Wolf, his five children, Christoph Wolf of Hampstead, N.C., Birgitt Wolf-King of Wheeler, N.Y., Marcus Wolf of NYC, Iris Weidelich of Kaiserslautern, Germany, and Merrit Squara of Wiesbaden, Germany and their spouses: Dina Wolf, Tony King, Sheryl Murakami, and Kurt Weidelich. Heinrich was also the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren: Nina, Tanya, Sabine, Matthias, and Marcel in Germany, and Gabriella, Amberly, Christoph, Bradlee, and Alexzander in the US, and great grandfather of five great grandchildren.

An intimate family service was held at Andrews Mortuary, Wilmington, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, who lovingly helped care for Heinrich for 14 months.
